If your idea of a perfect weekend includes old houses, hidden stories, and discovering places you’ve driven past a hundred times but never actually visited, “A Weekend in Old Monmouth” is worth a spot on the calendar. On May 2–3, 59 historic sites across Monmouth County will open their doors — from Revolutionary-era churches and farmhouses to museums, landmarks, and tucked-away local treasures.
You don’t need to be a history buff to enjoy it. Pick a few nearby stops, make a day of it, and take your own little time-travel road trip through Monmouth County. It’s also a lovely reminder that preserving history isn’t just about saving old buildings — it’s about keeping the stories, people, and places that shaped our communities alive for the next generation.
